Sunday Secrets “You look like an influencer for M&S” - and why that made me smile.

Someone said this to me last week - and honestly? I laughed ...
Not because it was rude (I actually love M&S - call me, we’d make magic).
But because it reminded me how easily people label us based on the first thing they see or remember about us.
Yes my style is intentional. It always has been.
It’s part of how I show up. It’s part of my presence.
And it’s something I use to amplify brands, including my own.
But that comment was a reminder that while style might draw people in it’s not the full story.
And it’s certainly not the only reason people work with me.
I’ve spent years working with women on their presence, confidence, and how they visually show up.
I have a background in styling and use it with my clients. I work as part of a team, mentoring and business consulting with stylists globally - I love it, I still use it, and I fully believe it matters.
It’s a part of my story - but it’s not all I do.
Today, I run a brand development and business growth agency.I work with high-performing women - the kind who already have success, but know they’re still not being seen properly.
We build brands that show the whole picture. That join the dots. That reflect who you are now - because we all evolve.
So yes — I’ll take the M&S compliment (I’d absolutely style the campaign). But let’s be very clear: that’s just one layer of what I bring to the table.
Because style might be what people notice first…But it’s your brand that should do the heavy lifting.
And if you’re only being seen for a sliver of what you actually do let’s change that.
Here are five things I want you to think about this week:
1. You’ve evolved - but has your brand?
You’re not the same woman you were when you started. You’ve gained experience, built results, refined your positioning.
So why is your brand still reflecting the 2020 version of you?
At this level, you can’t afford to let your brand sit on autopilot. It needs to evolve with you - and reflect the woman you’ve become.
2. People will see the most obvious part of you - unless you show them more
We all get labelled. The stylist. The mentor. The creative. The nice-to-follow one.
But if you stop there - that’s where they stop.
That M&S comment? It reminded me that people lead with what’s familiar. But that doesn’t mean they see the full picture.
If you want to be recognised for your depth, strategy, and leadership - your brand needs to make that clear.
3. You’ve got to join the dots
You know your story. You know your strengths. But if you’re not drawing a clear line between your experience, your offer, and your energy - your audience won’t get it.
They’ll assume. They’ll scroll. They’ll miss the point.
Your brand’s job is to make it impossible to misunderstand what you do, who it’s for, and why it matters.
That’s how you shift from being “good to follow” to impossible to ignore.
4. Safe content is keeping you small
Let’s not dance around it: helpful, inoffensive content is everywhere. And it’s not converting.
If your posts still feel polished but vague, like you’re saying what you think people want to hear - you’re not leading. You’re just floating.
The content that builds demand has a bit of edge. And it usually starts with saying what you’ve been holding back.
5. It’s not more content you need - it’s more clarity
Let’s not get stuck on volume. You don’t need to post three times a day. You don’t need to go viral.
You need your brand to land in under five seconds.
That only happens when your content reflects the real you - the evolved you - not the version that feels safe or expected.
Ask yourself: Is my message doing my growth justice? If the answer’s no - you don’t need a new niche.
You need a new level.
So yes - I’ll take the M&S comment with love. Style is part of my brand. It always will be.But it’s not the main reason people work with me now - and it never has been.
My clients come to me and my agency to build brands that lead. Content that converts. Presence that reflects the level they’re really playing at.
If that’s the energy you’re stepping into - start showing up like it.
Let them see the full you.
Join the dots. And build a brand that reflects the brilliance you already know you bring.
You weren’t made to blend in. You were made to lead.
With love,Janine x
